Beautiful original car. Chassis AM 109 2270 has the same matching engine number (245hp 3.7 litre engine, 1 of only 532 made). At some point in the cars history it picked up a 4000 label at the rear. It has been owned, and meticulously maintained, for the last 22 years by its present owner. It was originally purchased by Mr. Mario Bussola of Treviso on the 4th April 1967 (there is full documentation and build sheet on the car from Maserati Classiche). It was purchased by the present owner from Alfieri International Automobiles Sept. 30th 1989.
Restoration
The car was completely restored by Robert Hanna who was the technical representative for Maserati in Canada and President of “the Maserati owner’s Club” (TMC) for many years in Canada. He is highly regarded for his knowledge of these cars. The car is featured in an article on the car in issue 99 “Viale Coro Menotti” (MCI magazine).
This is the only complete restoration by Robert Hanna of a Mistral and was undertaken between 1989 and 1995. The guidelines were that the restoration was to be at least to the original standard to which the car was built. This was met or in many cases exceeded.
The car was completely stripped, with a frame up restoration. A total engine rebuild with new liners and pistons was undertaken. A new clutch installed and the transmission, suspension, steering, brakes and rear axle were checked and, as needed, extensively rebuilt. All components were refinished. The car has fuel injection that was rebuilt with all new components to the most recent specifications. It has, and still is, operating faultlessly. New Pirelli Cinturatos were mounted on polished and rebuilt Borrani wheels with new stainless steel spokes. It is fitted with four point racing shoulder harnesses for both driver and passenger.
The car was returned to its original color “Argento Auteuil” by Sportscar and Performance Restorations of Burlington Ontario, The interior, originally supplied with Connoly black leather, was completely restored with premium Italian leather and new carpets. It is in “as new condition”. Receipts and other details are available for the restoration.
The car has been stored in a dehumidified, heated, dark garage since restoration. Tires are over 20 years old but show no cracking and only slightly worn treads, they still have good adhesion.
The car has had occasional use (12,300 Km since restoration) with regular servicing and fluid changes. It has minor blemishes (paint and windshield chips a small crack out of line of vision) from use but is still a near immaculate Mistral.
Included are: Some spare parts, tools and ; new “competition” bushings for the suspension; 24 plugs, spare window motor, hood light etc.
Literature includes:Use and maintenance instructions; Lucas fuel injection manual; Parts catalogue with parts assembly diagrams; MIE manual on Mistral; Road tests on Mistral (Brooklands); issue 99 “Viale Coro Menotti”, Maserati classiche documentation including; build sheet; historical information certificate ans order sheet.
